THE NATURE OF...
My parents used to say, that everything has a nature to it...the trick is in finding what that nature is.
Rooted in the inherited sayings and ancestral wisdom from my Panamanian mother and Trinidadian father, and guided by poetry, this body of work draws from the parables, sayings, fables, and proverbs that serve as a symbolic manual and mantra to life. These ancestral teachings merge with verses that have marked my path, creating a painted mythscape where sayings become symbolic images.
Influenced by Aesop's fables, which poetically unveil moral and spiritual lessons through allegory; William Blake's profound observations on truth, illusion, innocence, and experience; and philosophers like Fyodor Dostoevsky, who explore the liberating yet challenging nature of truth, my allegorical paintings transform inherited directives and literary insights into visual narratives. Through symbolic imagery and poetic storytelling, the work navigates universal themes of love, identity, innocence, self-respect, confidence, free will, and the tension between vulnerability and strength—inviting reflection on the moral, spiritual, and existential choices that shape human existence.
Welcome to the exploration of "The Nature Of..."
